A responsible official from CR's Passenger Transport Department explained that this year, CR has fully implemented the decisions and deployments of the Communist Party Central Committee and the State Council, adhered to a people-centered development philosophy, actively adapted to the improving national economy and accelerated flow of people, and deepened structural reforms on the supply side of transportation. Efforts have been made to meticulously organize passenger transport, optimize passenger products, and provide reliable support for the safe, orderly and comfortable travel of the public.
First, CR efficiently coordinates the use of modernized railway network resources, scientifically and accurately allocates capacity, significantly improving passenger transport capacity. By efficiently coordinating high-speed and normal-speed rail resources and using new routes such as the Hainan-Yinchuan section of the Baotou-Yinchuan Railway, Xuancheng-Jixi High Speed Railway and Weifang-Yantai High Speed Railway, CR has coordinated transportation resources and optimized train schedules. The average number of daily passenger trains has increased by 9.3% year on year, with a daily average of 10,555 trains running. By utilizing data from the 12306 ticketing system, dynamic travel demand analysis has enabled precise allocation of resources. For high-demand destinations and sections, additional trains were added promptly. Special holiday periods, such as the Spring Festival, summer holidays, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Golden Week, saw smooth travel, with 21.448 million passengers sent on National Day alone, setting a record for single-day passenger volume. From January to October, 1,599 tourist trains were operated, supporting the development of the tourism and silver economy. Efforts to strengthen cross-border and cross-boundary passenger transport have been successful, with nearly 22.5 million cross-boundary passengers using the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Railway, up 39.5 year on year, and the China-Laos Railway sending 217,000 passengers. Additionally, the scale of normal-speed passenger train operations has been maintained, and the operation of "slow trains" and rural revitalization trains ensured smooth travel for communities in old revolutionary base areas, ethnic minority autonomous regions, land border areas and regions lifted out of poverty.
Second, CR optimizes ticketing strategies, introduces convenience measures, and continuously improves the quality of travel services. The 2024 edition of the "China National Railway Group Co., Ltd. Railway Passenger Transport Regulations" has been implemented, with a series of new convenience measures introduced. The railway 12306 platform has launched new functions such as seamless connections for passengers on the same train, and has scientifically devised ticketing strategies to enhance the ticket purchase and travel experience for passengers. The new ticket system services have been actively promoted, with the introduction of multi-ride tickets and commuter passes now covering 60 routes, and tourist packages available on 11 routes. The Railway Travel QR Code service is now available on all high-speed trains, and 120 stations nationwide offer convenient transfer services. Over 80 stations provide internet-based meal ordering services, and the "Silent Carriage" service has been expanded to 92 high-speed trains, continually improving the quality of onboard dining services. The rules for key passenger transport services have been optimized to better cater to the needs of the elderly, children, disabled and pregnant passengers. Efforts have been made to actively promote civilized travel, creating a warm and comfortable travel environment for all passengers.
Third, CR actively responds to natural disasters, effectively managing sudden passenger surges, and maintaining stable transportation safety. Adhering to the principles of putting people first, prioritizing life, and ensuring safety, CR has proactively responded to extreme weather and natural disasters, such as Typhoons "Yagi," "Pulasan" and "Kong-rey." Measures have been strengthened for monitoring and early warning, line inspections and equipment maintenance, with proactive risk mitigation actions taken in advance to ensure the safe operation of passenger trains. In the face of sudden large passenger flows, detailed emergency plans have been developed, passenger boarding and alighting operations have been optimized, security inspections at stations have been intensified, and the railway police have carried out special "Three Strikes and Three Defenses" actions to effectively safeguard the safe and orderly travel of passengers.
The official concluded by saying that, moving forward, CR will continue to closely monitor passenger flow changes, improve the organization of passenger transport, dynamically optimize train schedules, expand passenger services, and enhance the quality of services at stations and on trains, aiming to offer a better travel experience for the public.
