You can remove all settings and information from your iPhone tapping "Erase All Content and Settings" in Settings > General > Reset.

To remove all content and settings from your iPhone:

Step 1. If you wish to recover the data again, ensure that you have an iCloud or iTunes backup and that it is up to date.

Step 2. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.

When you select to "Erase All Content and Settings," the process can take from a few minutes to several hours. The time this process takes will vary by iOS device.

To erase your personal data from the iPhone follow these steps:

1. Sync your iPhone with iTunes to back up your data for future use

2. Navigate to Settings -> General -> Reset

3. To reset all settings to factory defaults without deleting your music, contacts, etc. choose "Reset All Settings"

4. For a complete wipe of all personal data from the iPhone select "Erase All Content and Settings"

5. Confirm your selection when prompted

After the process is complete your private data is erased. If necessary you can reload your music and contacts, etc. by syncing the reset iPhone with iTunes.

To erase your iPhone 5 before reselling, you can try iPhone Data Eraser tool. Data on your iPhone like contacts, text messages, photos, call history, password, account info, etc. can be 100% erased with one click.
